Volunteer Spotlight: Jenna Miller

For as long as she can remember, Jenna Miller has had a passion to care for the homeless. Because of her desire to serve, it came as no surprise to anyone that this college student found the opportunity to serve at The LOT Project– about two miles from Anderson University– where she prepares for a career in non-profit work after graduation.

Jenna started volunteering with The LOT Project a year and a half ago. Her work started with distributing water bottles and greeting guests, but as Jenna spent more time volunteering, her role changed. She now has a relationship with each guest that comes to The LOT, which arose from her engagement with guests through deeper, personal conversations each time she volunteers. Recently, Jenna was honored to celebrate one year of sobriety with a guest she met at The LOT Project.

“The LOT Project is different from other organizations that I have volunteered with in terms of being more relational,” Jenna says. “It is supported by a staff that truly cares about the people of Anderson and in getting to know them personally and getting them the help they might need.”

While Jenna builds relationships with those in need, she also finds that volunteering at the LOT Project strengthens her faith. Through intentional relationships with guests, Jenna shares the Gospel with others and witnesses God at work.

For other people interested in volunteering, Jenna has three words: “Just do it.” She elaborates on her appreciation for the organization, saying “The LOT Project is truly life-changing and eye-opening. There is no bad that would come from volunteering at The LOT Project.”
